  • 3 Tbsp chopped green onion
  • 2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse 2 cups of rice thoroughly and soak it for at least 30 minutes. For an even more delicious texture, you can mix rice and glutinous rice in a 1:1 ratio. (Adjust the type of rice according to your preference!)

Step 2

Let’s make the broth, which is one of the secrets to delicious bean sprout rice! In a pot, add 2.5 cups of water and a piece of dried kelp, then simmer to make kelp broth. You can also use anchovy broth if you prefer. While the broth is simmering, move on to the next step!

Step 3

While the broth is being made, rinse the fresh bean sprouts under cold water and drain them well. It’s important to maintain the crispiness of the bean sprouts.

Step 4

Now it’s time to make the seasoning sauce that will bring your bean sprout rice to life. In a bowl, combine minced garlic, minced onion, chopped green onion, gochugaru, soy sauce, toasted sesame seeds, and sesame oil. Mix everything thoroughly. The longer the sauce sits, the deeper its flavor will become. Also, finely chop some green onions to use as a garnish.

Step 5

Let’s start cooking the rice! In a pot or rice cooker, spread the soaked rice evenly at the bottom. Then, evenly layer half (1/2) of the rinsed bean sprouts over the rice. Pour in the 2 cups of prepared kelp broth. Finally, cover the rice with the remaining half (1/2) of the bean sprouts. Now, bring it to a boil over high heat.

Step 6

Once the rice starts boiling vigorously over high heat, immediately reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for another 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn off the heat completely and let it steam for 10 minutes with the lid on. This process ensures the rice grains are perfectly cooked and fluffy, and the flavor of the bean sprouts fully infuses into the rice.

Step 7

Sprinkle the finely chopped green onions over the delicious bean sprout rice. Then, add the seasoning sauce to your liking and mix well before enjoying! Enjoy a hearty and happy meal with this delightful bowl of bean sprout rice!
