Main Ingredients

  • 250g Vienna sausages (approx. 10-12 sausages)
  • 10 whole garlic cloves
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 1/4 bell pepper (use various colors for visual appeal)
  • 1/5 carrot (approx. 30g)

Special Soya Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar (for a touch of tang)
  • 4 Tbsp ketchup (adds a mild, savory flavor)
  • 1/3 Tbsp minced fresh ginger (or a pinch of ginger powder)
  • Pinch of black pepper (to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the sausages: Make 3-4 shallow cuts on the surface of each Vienna sausage. These cuts will help them open up like a flower or octopus tentacles when cooked, making the dish visually appealing and allowing the sauce to penetrate better for enhanced flavor.

Step 2

Chop the vegetables: Dice the onion and bell pepper into roughly 1cm cubes. Slice the carrot into similar-sized cubes. Peel the whole garlic cloves; if they are large, cut them in half. Cutting the vegetables into uniform sizes ensures they cook evenly.

Step 3

Make the special Soya sauce: In a small bowl, combine the sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, ketchup, minced ginger, and black pepper. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved. Preparing the sauce in advance allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

Step 4

Sauté garlic and onion: Heat 1-2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the prepared garlic cloves and onion. Sprinkle a little black pepper over them. Sauté until the garlic is golden brown and the onion becomes translucent. Frying them slightly adds a wonderful depth of flavor.

Step 5

Add and cook the sausages: Once the onion starts to turn translucent, add the scored Vienna sausages to the pan. Stir-fry them along with the aromatics until they are lightly browned and the cuts begin to open up, resembling flower petals or tentacles. This step enhances their visual appeal and texture.

Step 6

Add remaining vegetables: When the sausages are nicely shaped, add the diced carrots and bell peppers to the pan. Stir-fry for about 1-2 more minutes. It’s important not to overcook the vegetables; keeping them slightly crisp will maintain a pleasant texture.

Step 7

Add sauce and finish cooking: Pour the prepared Soya sauce into the pan. Mix everything well to ensure all ingredients are coated in the sauce. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats everything with a glossy sheen. Your delicious Soya Sausage Stir-fry is ready! It’s absolutely delightful served hot over a bowl of rice.
