Ultimate Comfort Meal: Easy and Delicious Soft Tofu Spicy Ramyeon Recipe
Who boils ramyeon noodles straight from the package these days? It feels like the true joy of ramyeon lies in adding various ingredients to create your own perfect combination, tailored to your taste! Simply boiling it feels too plain, doesn’t it? While adding dumplings or rice cakes is a common enhancement, today we’re diving into a recipe that’s currently trending: Soft Tofu Spicy Ramyeon! This famous dish, so popular that it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t tried it, was also showcased by Key from SHINee on the TV show ‘I Live Alone.’ It’s a simple yet incredibly satisfying meal, so let’s get cooking!
Main Ingredients- 1/2 block soft tofu (approx. 150-200g)
- 1 packet spicy ramyeon (you can choose your favorite spicy instant noodles)
- 2 Tbsp green onion (white part, finely chopped)
- 1 fresh egg
- 450ml water
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s check the instructions on your spicy ramyeon packet. It usually calls for 500ml of water. However, since we’ll be adding soft tofu, which releases moisture, we’ll reduce the water by 50ml to 450ml. This prevents the broth from becoming too diluted. Adjusting the water is crucial for achieving the perfect flavor balance, so make sure to pay attention to this step!
Step 2
We’ll use half of the soft tofu block. Gently break it apart or cut it into bite-sized pieces that are easy to eat. Half a block of soft tofu is a good amount for one packet of ramyeon to make it wonderfully rich. Now, pour the prepared 450ml of water into a pot. Add the ramyeon noodles, the soup base packet, and the dried vegetable packet. Bring it to a boil to create the foundational broth.
Step 3
Once the water starts boiling and the noodles have been cooking for about 3 minutes, carefully add the prepared soft tofu. In the ‘I Live Alone’ episode featuring Key from SHINee, one method involved boiling the soft tofu first before adding the noodles. However, I prefer to add the soft tofu a little later to ensure it doesn’t break down too much and maintains a pleasant texture. Adding it after the noodles have partially cooked helps preserve its silky consistency.
Step 4
When the ramyeon noodles are almost cooked, crack the fresh egg directly into the pot. As the egg white begins to set, gently break it apart with your chopsticks or a fork to create soft ribbons of cooked egg. It’s helpful to push the soft tofu to one side of the pot before adding the egg. Finally, add the finely chopped green onions and let it simmer for another moment. The secret weapon for the ultimate Soft Tofu Spicy Ramyeon is black pepper! To elevate the spicy notes, add a pinch of black pepper right at the end, just before you turn off the heat. Your delicious Soft Tofu Spicy Ramyeon, bursting with flavor, is now ready to be enjoyed!
