How to Make Soft Steamed Eggs in the Microwave
Made this soft steamed egg because I was hungry!
Ingredients- 1 raw egg
- 20ml water
- Salt to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gather all your ingredients for a delicious steamed egg! You’ll need one fresh egg, 20ml of water, and salt to season. Using a measuring cup or a small shot glass will help you get the water amount just right.
Step 2
Crack one egg into a bowl. Use a whisk or fork to break the chalazae (the white stringy bits) and gently beat the egg until the yolk and white are well combined. Whisking gently, rather than vigorously, will help achieve a smoother texture.
Step 3
Add 20ml of cold water to the beaten egg. For an extra layer of flavor, you can substitute the water with anchovy broth or vegetable broth. Be careful not to add too much liquid, as this can make the steamed egg too watery. Ensure you measure accurately.
Step 4
Add salt to taste. Just a small pinch of regular salt is usually enough. Alternatively, about 1/2 teaspoon of soy sauce can add a lovely umami flavor. Stir well after adding the salt to ensure it’s evenly distributed and doesn’t clump.
Step 5
Pour the egg mixture into a microwave-safe container (like a mug, heatproof glass, or small bowl). Cover it loosely with plastic wrap or a microwave-safe lid. Microwave on high for about 1 minute and 10 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds. Cooking time may vary slightly depending on your microwave’s power. To check if it’s done, insert a toothpick or skewer; it should come out clean.
Step 6
Voila! Remove from the microwave to reveal your perfectly steamed, fluffy egg dish, steaming hot and ready to enjoy. For an extra touch, garnish with finely chopped scallions, carrots, or sesame seeds. It’s a fantastic side dish or a satisfying snack!
