Baby’s First Steps: Stage 1 Rice Porridge Recipe
Hello! Starting your baby’s weaning journey can be exciting yet overwhelming, right? You don’t need fancy equipment; this simple recipe uses just a pot and a blender to create nutritious baby food. Today, I’m sharing a detailed guide to Stage 1 Rice Porridge (Meeum), perfect for your baby’s delicate digestive system. Its smooth texture and mild flavor will help your baby happily adapt to eating solids!
Ingredients- 12g Rice (15g soaked rice)
- 250ml Water (filtered or purified)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare 12g of rice. If you are using pre-soaked rice, use about 15g.
Step 2
Rinse the prepared rice thoroughly under running water multiple times. It’s important to wash away any husks or impurities until the water runs clear.
Step 3
Soak the rinsed rice in filtered or purified water for about 4 hours. Soaking the rice makes it softer and easier for your baby to digest. Use plenty of water for soaking.
Step 4
Add 100ml of the measured water to the well-soaked rice and transfer it to a blender or food processor. Since it’s for your baby, grinding it as finely as possible is key.
Step 5
Press the button on your blender or food processor (I used the Cocomelon automatic chopper!) to finely grind the rice. The goal is to grind it so that the rice grains are almost imperceptible, making it easier for your baby to swallow.
Step 6
As the rice is ground, it will transform into a liquid similar to milk. Stage 1 baby food is typically a ‘porridge’ (meeum) form, meaning it should be completely free of graininess and have a liquid consistency to avoid overwhelming your baby’s system.
Step 7
Transfer the ground rice mixture from the blender into a pot. Add the remaining 150ml of water. Stir continuously while bringing it to a boil. Once it starts bubbling vigorously, reduce the heat to low. Continue stirring gently until the rice liquid becomes clear and reaches a smooth, porridge-like consistency, similar to what you see in the video. Be careful not to let it burn!
Step 8
Since there might still be tiny, invisible grains of rice, strain the rice porridge through a fine-mesh sieve. This will ensure an even smoother texture for your baby’s swallowing.
Step 9
Babies typically start with 1-2 small servings a day. This recipe yields approximately a 3-day supply for Stage 1. The finished rice porridge is about 50ml per serving, resulting in 3 servings in total. Adjust the feeding amount according to your baby’s age and needs.
Step 10
Your homemade Stage 1 Rice Porridge (Meeum) is complete, made with love! We wish your baby a happy and healthy journey into solid foods!
