Start Your Baby’s Weaning Journey with Sweet Banana Porridge! Babycook Cookmaster Recipe for Early Stage Baby Food (Makes 3 x 60ml Portions)
Introducing your baby to the wonderful world of solids? Sweet and smooth banana porridge is an excellent choice for their first complementary food! This recipe, designed for the Babycook Cookmaster, makes 3 x 60ml portions and is perfect for the early stages of weaning. Prepare this delightful porridge with love to help your baby enjoy their mealtime adventures.
Ingredients- 1 ripe banana, 35g (about 1/4 of a medium banana)
- 20g glutinous rice or regular white rice (about 2 tablespoons)
- 200ml water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, accurately measure out 20g (about 2 tablespoons) of glutinous rice or regular white rice. Using pre-soaked rice will result in an even smoother porridge.
Step 2
Rinse the measured rice thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear. It’s important to remove the milky starch for a cleaner taste. Place the rinsed rice in a bowl and add 200ml of water. Let it soak for at least 1 hour, or longer, until the rice is well hydrated. Soaking helps the rice cook evenly and makes it easier to digest.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the sweet banana for your baby! A ripe banana with a few brown spots on the peel will be sweeter and ideal for baby food. Peel the banana and trim off the ends.
Step 4
Weigh out exactly 35g of the prepared banana (approximately 1/4 of a medium banana). Finely chop the weighed banana into small pieces. Pre-chopping will make the cooking process much easier.
Step 5
If you’re using the Babycook Cookmaster, place the soaked rice in the first basket and the chopped banana in the second basket. Set the machine to the ‘Steam’ function and steam for a total of 30 minutes. The rice and banana will cook together, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.
Step 6
Bananas can become mushy if overcooked, so it’s best to remove the banana from the steamer about 10 minutes before the rice is fully cooked (after 20 minutes of steaming). Alternatively, you can remove the banana after the full 30-minute steaming and steam it briefly on its own, or steam it separately from the rice. (If your baby food maker has separate steaming compartments, utilizing those for rice and banana would be ideal.)
Step 7
Transfer the steamed rice and banana into a blender. Select the ‘Stage 3 (Puree)’ setting and blend until very smooth, ensuring there are no lumps for easy swallowing. Blend thoroughly until you achieve a consistently smooth texture.
Step 8
For an extra-smooth consistency, pass the blended banana porridge through a fine-mesh sieve. This step is beneficial if your baby has difficulty chewing grains or banana pieces, resulting in an even smoother and more digestible baby food. Divide the sieved porridge into your pre-sterilized baby food containers, aiming for 3 x 60ml portions. Store the completed banana porridge in the refrigerator and always warm it up before feeding it to your baby.
