Light and satisfying as a snack or a simple meal, this dish combines crispy pan-fried tofu with the aromatic flavors of garlic and olive oil. It’s a surprisingly delightful dish that’s easy to make without any fancy ingredients!
Main Ingredients- Tofu 100g
- 1 Egg
- 3 cloves Garlic
Sauce and Seasoning- 3 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 4 pinches Chicken Powder (or chicken stock powder)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- 2 pinches Salt
- 3 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 4 pinches Chicken Powder (or chicken stock powder)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- 2 pinches Salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. Sprinkle 2 pinches of salt over the cubed tofu and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This helps to draw out moisture, resulting in crispier fried tofu.
Step 2
Generously coat a pan with 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Add the drained tofu cubes. Importantly, place the tofu in the pan *before* turning on the heat. This prevents sticking and ensures even frying. Once the oil coats the tofu, turn the heat to medium-low.
Step 3
Slowly fry the tofu over medium-low heat. The key is to let it turn golden brown and for the edges to become slightly firm. Frying gently and patiently will achieve the best texture.
Step 4
Transfer the well-fried tofu to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. This step makes the dish less greasy and more refined in flavor.
Step 5
Prepare the garlic by peeling 3 cloves and slicing them thinly. Slicing them evenly will help to release their aroma effectively.
Step 6
Have 1 fresh egg ready. Whisk the egg well before adding it to the pan.
Step 7
Now, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in the same pan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté until it turns a light golden brown, being careful not to burn it. This infuses the oil with garlic aroma. As soon as the garlic starts to brown, pour in the whisked egg and quickly scramble it by stirring vigorously with chopsticks or a spatula. Once the egg is cooked and scrambled, add the fried tofu and mix everything together gently. Finally, sprinkle in 4 pinches of chicken powder to season the dish. (If you don’t have chicken powder, chicken stock powder works too!)
Step 8
Voila! Your delicious Tofu Aglio e Olio is ready. Serve immediately while warm for the best taste. Enjoy this simple yet impressive dish! ^—^
