Simple Spam & Mayo Rice Bowl: A Hearty One-Dish Meal
Easy Spam Mayo Rice Bowl Recipe, Egg Spam Rice Bowl
I made a delicious Spam and Egg Rice Bowl, which is a fantastic one-dish meal perfect for a single serving. This recipe is simple yet satisfying, combining savory spam, fluffy scrambled eggs, and a tangy dressing.
Main Ingredients- 1 bowl cooked rice (approx. 200g)
- 1/2 can Spam (approx. 68g)
- 1/4 onion (approx. 25g)
- 1 strip pickled radish (danmuji, approx. 18g)
- 2 eggs
- Pinch of salt
- A little olive oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables. Thinly slice the onion into strips. Finely chop the pickled radish into small, square pieces. Having these prepped will save you time while cooking.
Step 2
Cut the Spam into bite-sized cubes, about 5mm thick. If you rinse the Spam briefly under cold running water before slicing, it can help reduce some of the saltiness.
Step 3
Now, let’s make the scrambled eggs. Crack the 2 eggs into a bowl and add a pinch of salt. Whisk them together with a spoon until the yolks and whites are well combined.
Step 4
Lightly grease a non-stick pan with olive oil and preheat it over medium heat. Carefully pour the whisked egg mixture into the heated pan.
Step 5
As the bottom of the egg mixture starts to set, gently stir it with a spoon or spatula to create soft scrambled eggs. Once the eggs are about 60-70% cooked, turn off the heat. The residual heat in the pan will continue to cook them to a perfect, fluffy consistency.
Step 6
Prepare your serving bowl. Place a generous portion of warm cooked rice into the bowl. Gently arrange the fluffy scrambled eggs on top of the rice.
Step 7
Time to make the delicious sauce that makes this Spam Mayo Rice Bowl special! In a separate pan, add the sliced onions. Pour in 1.5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 0.5 tablespoon of corn syrup, and 3 tablespoons of water.
Step 8
Cook this sauce mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the onions become translucent and the sauce reduces by about half. Turn off the heat once it reaches the desired consistency. The sweetness of the onions combined with the savory soy sauce creates a wonderful depth of flavor.
Step 9
Spoon about two-thirds of the prepared sauce over the rice and scrambled eggs. You can reserve the remaining sauce to add later if you find the dish needs more seasoning.
Step 10
Now, let’s pan-fry the Spam. Lightly oil the pan and cook the cubed Spam over medium-low heat until it’s golden brown and slightly crispy. Cooking it slowly helps to bring out its rich, savory flavor.
Step 11
Arrange the golden-brown Spam cubes and the chopped pickled radish on top of the rice and eggs. The tangy pickled radish provides a nice contrast to the rich Spam and adds a refreshing element.
Step 12
With all the main ingredients in place, drizzle mayonnaise in a zig-zag pattern over the bowl, according to your preference. The creamy mayonnaise ties all the flavors together beautifully.
Step 13
Finally, sprinkle some sesame seeds for an extra nutty aroma and visual appeal. For a pop of color, you can add a pinch of parsley flakes if desired. Mix everything together to enjoy your homemade Spam Mayo Rice Bowl! If the sauce isn’t quite enough, feel free to add the reserved sauce to adjust the taste.
