  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 1/2 stalk of green onion
  • 2 Tbsp chopped chili peppers (adjust to your spice preference)

Seasoning Ingredients
  • 100ml soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp plum extract (or corn syrup/honey if unavailable)
  • 2 Tbsp perilla oil (or sesame oil)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the main ingredients for your dish. You’ll need 2 packs of soft tofu for a smooth texture, 1/2 medium onion, and 1/2 stalk of green onion. Have the chopped chili peppers ready to add a spicy kick, adjusting the amount to your liking.

Step 2

Carefully open the packaging of the soft tofu and place it in a bowl. Use chopsticks or a spoon to cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm. It’s important to drain any excess water from the tofu to ensure the sauce has the right consistency.

Step 3

Peel and wash the onion, then mince it very finely. Finely chop the green onion, using both the white and green parts. Mincing the vegetables finely will help them blend smoothly into the sauce.

Step 4

Now it’s time to make the delicious soft tofu sauce! Measure out 100ml of soy sauce into a measuring cup for a deep and rich flavor.

Step 5

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar for a touch of sweetness. You can also use corn syrup as an alternative.

Step 6

Stir in 1 tablespoon of plum extract for umami and a subtle sweetness. If you don’t have plum extract, feel free to substitute it with 1 tablespoon of corn syrup or honey.

Step 7

Finally, add 2 tablespoons of nutty and aromatic perilla oil. You can use sesame oil if perilla oil is not available, but perilla oil will give it a more distinct flavor. Mix all the seasoning ingredients thoroughly with a whisk or spoon until well combined to complete the sauce.

Step 8

Place the cut soft tofu in a wide bowl. First, evenly sprinkle the finely chopped green onion over the tofu. The fresh aroma of the green onions will complement the tofu beautifully.

Step 9

Next, artfully arrange the minced onion on top of the soft tofu. The sweetness of the onion will add another layer of deliciousness to your dish.

Step 10

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chopped chili peppers over everything for a spicy kick. If you’re sensitive to heat, you can reduce the amount or omit them entirely.

Step 11

Finally, pour the lovingly prepared sauce evenly over all the ingredients. Behold! Your incredibly simple and satisfying soft tofu sauce is ready. Simply spoon it over your rice and mix – it’s that easy!

Step 12

This dish is delicious enjoyed immediately without any cooking. However, if you have time, letting it chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour will allow the flavors to meld, resulting in an even deeper taste. If you plan to store it for longer, it’s best to heat the sauce ingredients (soy sauce, sugar, plum extract) in a pot, bring to a boil, let it cool completely, and then pour it over the tofu. This method ensures safer storage. Enjoy your delicious and effortless meal!
