Seasoning Sauce Ingredients- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 chili pepper (optional, remove seeds and mince)
- 1/3 stalk green onion (finely chopped, mainly white parts)
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp mentsuyu (or substitute with more soy sauce)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 chili pepper (optional, remove seeds and mince)
- 1/3 stalk green onion (finely chopped, mainly white parts)
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp mentsuyu (or substitute with more soy sauce)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, it’s important to clean the oysters thoroughly. Prepare 1 tablespoon of coarse salt.
Step 2
Place the oysters in a bowl and add the coarse salt. Gently stir with a spoon for 1-2 minutes in the salty water to clean them. Rinse under running water to remove any impurities, then drain them in a colander.
Step 3
Julienne the radish into roughly 0.5cm thick strips. Wash the bean sprouts thoroughly, removing any wilted or discolored parts, and drain them.
Step 4
In the inner pot of your rice cooker, add washed rice and water, using slightly less water than you normally would for cooking rice. Layer the julienned radish on top of the rice, followed by the bean sprouts. Finally, arrange the drained oysters evenly on top. Now, simply press the ‘Cook’ button on your rice cooker to make the oyster rice base.
Step 5
It’s time to make the delicious seasoning sauce that will enhance the flavor of your oyster rice. Finely chop the green onion (focusing on the white parts) and the chili pepper (after removing the seeds).
Step 6
In a small bowl, combine the minced green onion and chili pepper. Add 1/2 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp mentsuyu, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru, and 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds (reserving the rest for garnish). Mix well with a spoon until all ingredients are evenly combined to create a flavorful seasoning sauce.
Step 7
Your delicious oyster and radish rice (Gulpap) is ready! Scoop the steaming rice from the rice cooker into a bowl and mix it with the prepared seasoning sauce. The burst of oyster flavor, the crunch of radish, and the savory aroma of sesame oil will create an incredibly appetizing and satisfying meal.
