- 1 handful of chopped green onions (about 2 Tbsp)
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 3 Tbsp doenjang (Korean soybean paste)
- 0.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (or garlic powder)
- 1 tsp fine gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
- 2 Tbsp honey or corn syrup (adjust sweetness to taste)
- 1 handful of chopped green onions (about 2 Tbsp)
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cook one serving of rice. Using your rice cooker makes it simple to achieve perfectly fluffy and moist rice. (Tip: For one serving, about half a rice cup of uncooked rice is usually a good amount.)
Step 2
While the rice is cooking, let’s prepare the special ssamjang sauce! In a bowl, combine 3 Tbsp doenjang, 0.5 Tbsp gochujang, 2 Tbsp honey (or corn syrup), 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1 tsp gochugaru. Mix these well. Then, add 1 handful of chopped green onions, 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds, and 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil for extra aroma and flavor. Your delicious ssamjang is ready!
Step 3
Once the rice is cooked, pour 1 Tbsp of cooking oil into the inner pot of your rice cooker and spread it evenly across the bottom. This prevents the eggs from sticking. Carefully crack the 2 eggs into the pot, and sprinkle a pinch of salt evenly over them. Select the ‘Reheat’ function on your rice cooker and set it for 9 minutes. (Tip: If you don’t break the yolks, you’ll get beautifully runny fried eggs.)
Step 4
You can achieve your desired egg doneness by utilizing the remaining time on the rice cooker’s ‘Reheat’ function. If you turn off the cooker when there are 4 minutes left, you’ll have a soft-boiled fried egg. If you turn it off when there are 3 minutes left, the yolk will be fully cooked (hard-boiled).
Step 5
Place the freshly cooked warm rice into a bowl. Gently top it with the rice cooker fried egg you just made. Add about 1.5 Tbsp of the special ssamjang sauce. Mix everything together and enjoy a truly delicious meal!
