Simple Pan-Fried King Oyster Mushrooms with Butter

Today, I’m sharing a super simple recipe for pan-fried king oyster mushrooms. I had a restless night and was in a daze all morning, but finally regained my senses this afternoon and found myself just watching TV… haha. I’m not a child, but I just wanted to relax and do nothing! ㅋㅋ After lazing around, I finally made one side dish. This dish is incredibly easy and packed with flavor, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • King oyster mushrooms
  • Butter
  • Minced garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Green onion (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

First, prepare the king oyster mushrooms. Wash them thoroughly under running water and trim off the very bottom of the stem. Then, slice the mushrooms lengthwise into about 1cm thick pieces. Keeping the mushroom’s natural shape will help maintain a pleasant chewy texture.

Next, heat a pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of butter. Once the butter has melted, add the minced garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. This step infuses the butter with a lovely garlic aroma, which will enhance the overall flavor of the mushrooms. (Previously, I used perilla oil, but today I’m trying butter for a different taste. Sesame oil works too, but perilla oil offers a richer flavor.)

Add the sliced king oyster mushrooms to the pan with the fragrant garlic butter. Try to arrange them in a single layer as much as possible so they cook evenly and develop a nice sear.

Once the mushrooms start to soften and brown slightly, season them with freshly ground salt and pepper. It’s best to season gradually and taste as you go, rather than adding too much at once. This dish is so simple, but the seasoning truly elevates it!

Continue to cook the mushrooms over medium-low heat, flipping them occasionally, until they are golden brown and tender. The mushrooms will release some moisture and then start to caramelize, becoming beautifully chewy. Once they’re cooked to your liking, remove them from the heat. It’s that easy!

Finally, transfer the pan-fried king oyster mushrooms to a serving plate. If you have chopped green onions, sprinkle them over the top for a fresh garnish. Since I didn’t have green onions, I used finely chopped regular green onion instead. ^^ Although this recipe is incredibly simple, pan-frying them this way makes for a delicious and satisfying dish, perfect as a side or even a light meal.
