Home Baking with Biscuit Mix: Perfect for a Cozy Rainy Day
The weather forecast was right; it started raining this morning, and now it’s just overcast. I’ve been craving freshly baked goods lately, and passing by the bakery always makes me hesitate. As a 7-month dieter, I know myself well – if I go in, I’ll buy a whole bag and eat it all. So, I have to resist! While some people have cheat days, I don’t. I can’t bear to see the number on the scale after indulging for a day! However, to avoid extreme stress from deprivation, I allow myself to enjoy one craving in a single meal. Today, I decided to bake the biscuit mix I bought from No Brand a while ago.
Ingredients- No Brand Biscuit Mix 1 bag
- 75ml White Milk
- Strawberry Jam (Optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, pour the entire bag of No Brand Biscuit Mix into a large bowl. The package suggests using water, but for a richer and creamier texture, I’ve prepared 75ml of white milk. (If you find it hard to measure exactly 75ml, using a 72ml measuring cup can be helpful.)
Step 2
Instead of pouring all the milk at once, it’s best to add it gradually while mixing. This allows you to better control the dough’s consistency and ensure it mixes evenly without lumps.
Step 3
When mixing the dough, avoid kneading it too vigorously. Gently bring it together until it forms a mass. Over-kneading can result in tough biscuits. I’m making a smaller batch today, aiming for about 4-5 biscuits.
Step 4
You can simply shape the dough into balls, but for a special touch, try adding a dollop of strawberry jam in the center. Carefully enclose the jam within the dough to create a biscuit with a sweet, fruity surprise inside, eliminating the need for separate jam.
Step 5
I’ve prepared 8 plain biscuits by just shaping the dough, and 2 biscuits with strawberry jam in the center. Feel free to customize them according to your preference!
Step 6
Now, it’s time to bake. Following the instructions on the biscuit mix packaging, I baked them in a preheated oven at 170°C (338°F) for 12 minutes. However, when I took them out, they seemed a bit flatter than I expected and hadn’t risen much. They definitely need more baking time.
Step 7
So, I moved them to the top rack of the oven and baked for an additional 10 minutes. I kept a close eye on them, opening the oven door periodically to check for burning. Even at 170°C, oven temperatures can vary by household, so it’s crucial to monitor your biscuits as they bake to achieve a perfect golden brown.
Step 8
The freshly baked biscuits will be very hot. Let them cool slightly before enjoying. They are indeed most delicious when served warm!
