The Ultimate Beer Snack! Easy & Flavorful Garlic Butter Dried Squid Stir-Fry Recipe
Found some dried squid strips in the fridge that are perfect for a side dish, but today we’re elevating them into a fantastic beer snack! Dried squid is delicious on its own, but we’re transforming it with a rich garlic butter glaze. This ‘Garlic Butter Dried Squid Stir-Fry’ will turn a casual beer break into a delightful culinary experience. Let’s make your next drink session feel special!
Main Ingredients- 150g Dried squid strips (Jinmichae)
- 40g Butter
- 2 Tbsp Cooking oil
- 3 Tbsp Minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Dried squid strips are usually pre-seasoned. Depending on your preference for texture and taste, you can rinse them lightly under water, or if you prefer the original seasoned flavor, you can skip the rinsing step. Personally, I find rinsing them once results in a cleaner taste.
Step 2
After rinsing the dried squid, place them in a colander to drain thoroughly. It’s important to remove as much moisture as possible, as excess water can cause oil splattering during cooking and make the squid soggy.
Step 3
In a pan, combine 40g of butter and 2 Tbsp of cooking oil. Melt them together over medium-low heat. While butter alone can be used, adding a bit of cooking oil raises its smoke point, preventing it from burning easily. This is a great tip I learned from Chef Ryu Soo Young!
Step 4
Once the butter has melted, add 3 Tbsp of minced garlic. Sauté the garlic until it becomes fragrant and slightly golden. The aromatic garlic infused with butter will add a wonderful depth of flavor to the dish. Don’t be shy with the garlic – more is often better!
Step 5
When the garlic turns translucent and starts to lightly brown, add the drained dried squid strips to the pan and stir-fry them together with the garlic and butter mixture.
Step 6
Stir-fry the squid over medium heat until it turns a light golden brown and is well-coated with the garlic butter sauce. You can adjust the cooking time based on your preference, but be careful not to overcook, as it can become tough.
Step 7
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of black pepper for added aroma. If you’re using salted butter, you likely won’t need extra salt. However, if you’re using unsalted butter, taste the dish and add a little salt if needed. I personally prefer it less salty for a cleaner taste.
Step 8
And there you have it – your delicious Garlic Butter Dried Squid Stir-Fry is ready! As I was eating it, I thought to myself, ‘I wish I had added more garlic!’ If you’re a big fan of garlic flavor like me, feel free to increase the amount of garlic to your liking for an even richer taste.
Step 9
Since this is made with simple ingredients at home, a light sprinkle of parsley flakes at the end adds a nice touch of color and freshness.
Step 10
For an extra savory and cheesy kick, generously sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese. This will give it a gourmet feel, similar to what you’d find in a restaurant. The salty and savory combination is absolutely perfect with a cold beer!
