Simple Frozen Chicken Breast Porridge (Dakjuk) Recipe
Utilizing Frozen Chicken Breast: Making Hearty and Comforting Dakjuk
Let’s make a simple yet nutritious Dakjuk using chicken breast from the freezer. The tender chicken and glutinous rice come together for a comforting meal that’s gentle on the stomach.
Main Ingredients- 4 cups glutinous rice (using a Korean paper cup)
- 2 pieces frozen chicken breast
- Water (for boiling chicken and cooking porridge)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Thaw the 2 pieces of frozen chicken breast completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Thawed chicken breast will be more tender and delicious when cooked.
Step 2
Rinse the 4 cups of glutinous rice (measured with a Korean paper cup) thoroughly under running water until clean. Place the rinsed rice in a bowl, cover with plenty of water, and soak for about 30 minutes. Soaking the glutinous rice beforehand will make the porridge much softer and quicker to cook.
Step 3
Place the thawed chicken breast pieces in a pot, cover with just enough water, and boil over high heat for about 10 minutes. Once the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the pot, let it cool slightly, and then shred it into small pieces by hand. Do not discard the chicken cooking water; set it aside separately. This broth will add a deep flavor to the porridge.
Step 4
Now, prepare a pot for cooking the porridge. Add the soaked glutinous rice, 2 cups of the chicken cooking water, and the reserved broth (from boiling the chicken) to the pot. Stir everything together to combine.
Step 5
Add the finely shredded chicken breast to the pot! The chicken will cook tenderly in the rice and broth.
Step 6
Reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 15 minutes, stirring continuously with a spatula or ladle to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot. The porridge is cooking well when the rice grains become translucent and start to break down.
Step 7
Once the glutinous rice has softened and broken down, creating a nicely thickened porridge, your delicious Dakjuk is ready! You can enjoy it as is, or season it to your preference for an even better taste.
Step 8
Season with salt to taste for a satisfying and delicious meal. Enjoying it warm will be a comforting and energizing dish, perfect for boosting your strength.
