Simple & Delicious Tuna Kimchi Rice Bowl Recipe
Quick Tuna Kimchi Rice Bowl Using Packaged Stir-fried Kimchi
Craving a quick yet satisfying meal on a busy day? This recipe uses convenient packaged stir-fried kimchi and canned tuna to create a delicious tuna kimchi rice bowl that anyone can easily make. If you don’t have packaged stir-fried kimchi, feel free to use your homemade stir-fried kimchi! Simply serve it over rice for a perfect one-bowl meal.
Main Ingredients- 3 packs of packaged stir-fried kimchi (or homemade)
- 2 cans of tuna (lean tuna with less oil recommended)
- 1.5 handfuls of onion (about 1/2 medium onion)
- 1.5 handfuls of green onion (about 1/2 stalk)
- 2 handfuls of cabbage (about 1/8 small head)
Seasoning & Optional Add-ins- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 0.5 Tbsp gochujang (red chili paste, optional for extra spice)
- A pinch of MSG (optional, for enhanced umami)
- 2 Tbsp ‘Yeondoo’ or soy sauce (optional, for adjusting saltiness)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 0.5 Tbsp gochujang (red chili paste, optional for extra spice)
- A pinch of MSG (optional, for enhanced umami)
- 2 Tbsp ‘Yeondoo’ or soy sauce (optional, for adjusting saltiness)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a frying pan, combine the packaged stir-fried kimchi and the canned tuna. Don’t discard the kimchi juice, as it adds a wonderful depth of flavor to the dish! Drain excess oil from the tuna if necessary; I didn’t drain mine as the tuna I used was low in oil. (Example: Used ‘Pulmuone Sesame Oil Stir-fried Kimchi’ and ‘No Brand Lean Tuna’.)
Step 2
Add the remaining ingredients – chopped onion, green onion, and cabbage – to the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat until the onions become translucent and the vegetables soften. Feel free to add other vegetables like mushrooms if you like. (I added 2 Tbsp of ‘Yeondoo’ for extra flavor.)
Step 3
Once the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken into a perfect consistency for a rice topping. If you prefer a saucier topping, you can reduce the simmering time. Adjust the consistency to your liking.
Step 4
Serve the delicious simmered tuna kimchi mixture generously over a bowl of warm rice to complete your meal! Enjoy the fantastic combination of packaged kimchi and tuna, enhanced by the savory umami from the MSG. For an even richer taste, consider topping it with a soft scrambled egg or some melted cheese!
