- 1/2 cup water (100ml)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (15ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp sugar (7.5ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup or honey (7.5ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (7.5ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp chopped green onion (7.5ml)
- A drizzle of sesame oil
- A pinch of sesame seeds (optional)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (15ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp sugar (7.5ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup or honey (7.5ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (7.5ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp chopped green onion (7.5ml)
- A drizzle of sesame oil
- A pinch of sesame seeds (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by thoroughly washing the two large potatoes under running water and then peel them. Cut the peeled potatoes into generous, bite-sized pieces. Place the cut potatoes into a pot or deep pan. Add 1/2 cup (100ml) of water. Turn the heat to high and cook the potatoes until they become translucent. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
Step 2
Once the potatoes are translucent and tender, it’s time to add the flavorful seasonings. Add 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 0.5 Tbsp sugar, 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey), 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, and the 0.5 Tbsp of chopped green onion directly over the potatoes. Gently shake the pan or stir with a spatula to coat the potatoes evenly with the seasoning mixture. Ensuring the seasoning coats all the potatoes is key to a delicious result.
Step 3
After the seasoning has started to coat the potatoes, reduce the heat to low. Simmering on low heat allows the soy sauce mixture to deeply penetrate the potatoes, creating a richer flavor. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has mostly reduced. Finally, add the remaining 0.5 Tbsp of chopped green onion, give it a quick stir, and turn off the heat.
Step 4
After turning off the heat, drizzle a little sesame oil over the braised potatoes for a nutty aroma. If you like, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top for an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal. Enjoy your delicious homemade Gamja Jorim with a warm bowl of rice!
