A Perfect One-Dish Meal for Lunch: Bacon and Egg Fried Rice
On days when you don’t feel like preparing side dishes, here’s a quick and easy bacon and egg fried rice recipe. It’s a satisfying meal that’s perfect for a busy day!
Ingredients- 2 servings of leftover cooked rice
- 7 strips of bacon
- 1 egg
- 1 stalk of green onion
- 0.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 4 Tbsp cooking oil
- A pinch of black pepper
- A little sesame seeds
- A little sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, chop the bacon into small, bite-sized pieces (about 1-2 cm). This makes it easier to mix with the rice and provides a pleasant texture.
Step 2
Finely mince the green onion, focusing on the white parts. The green onion will release its fragrance into the oil as it fries, enhancing the overall flavor of the fried rice.
Step 3
Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk it thoroughly with a fork or chopsticks until the yolk and white are completely combined.
Step 4
Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Pour in the beaten egg and let it cook until the edges just begin to set. Then, use chopsticks to quickly scramble the egg into soft curds. It’s best to slightly undercook it. Once cooked, transfer the scrambled egg to a separate bowl.
Step 5
Now, in the pan you’ll use for the fried rice, add about 4 Tbsp of cooking oil. Add the minced green onion and stir-fry over medium-low heat until fragrant, creating an aromatic green onion oil. Once the aroma is released, add the chopped bacon and continue to cook for about 1 minute, rendering the bacon fat.
Step 6
Add the leftover cooked rice to the pan with the sautéed green onion and bacon. If the rice is clumped together, use a spatula to break apart the grains and spread them evenly in the pan.
Step 7
Stir-fry the rice for about 3 minutes, breaking up any clumps and ensuring the rice is heated through. Once the rice is loosened, carefully pour half a tablespoon of soy sauce around the edges of the pan. Then, add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce and continue to stir-fry for another minute. Stir well to coat the rice grains with the soy sauce and oyster sauce. Add the prepared scrambled eggs and toss gently for about 30 seconds. Just before turning off the heat, sprinkle a pinch of black pepper.
Step 8
Turn off the heat, drizzle with a little sesame oil, and give it a final stir to combine everything. Your delicious bacon and egg fried rice is now ready!
Step 9
To serve, firmly press the fried rice into a small bowl, then invert it onto a plate. For a beautiful presentation, you can tear some imitation crab sticks into thin strips, overlap them in a cross shape on top of the rice, fold the center, and place a mini cheese slice in the middle to resemble a flower. It looks fancy without being complicated, making your meal both visually appealing and delicious!
