Simple and Delicious Korean Green Pepper Fritter Recipe
Korean Green Pepper Fritters (Gochujeon)
Unlike the typical Gochujeon filled with meat and tofu, this recipe offers a simpler and quicker alternative! We’ll coat crisp Korean green peppers with flour and a seasoned egg batter, then pan-fry them to perfection. It’s an easy and delicious way to enjoy a unique Korean side dish or snack. Perfect for holidays, special occasions, or just a delightful homemade treat!
Fritter Ingredients- 5 Korean green peppers (Gochu)
- Flour, for coating (appropriate amount)
Egg Batter- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (or mirin)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (or mirin)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 5 crisp Korean green peppers. Wash them thoroughly and remove the stems. Then, carefully slice each pepper in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. This preparation ensures the flavors meld well and the peppers maintain their shape during cooking.
Step 2
In a wide bowl, crack the 2 large eggs. Add 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, and 1 Tbsp of cooking wine (or mirin). The cooking wine helps eliminate any eggy smell and adds a subtle flavor. Whisk everything together until well combined and smooth, ensuring there are no lumps.
Step 3
Gently coat the cut sides and outer surface of each pepper half with flour. Lightly tap off any excess flour; this creates a thin, even layer that helps the egg batter adhere beautifully.
Step 4
Dip each flour-coated pepper half into the prepared egg batter, making sure both sides are generously covered. This egg coating will turn golden brown and crispy when fried.
Step 5
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Carefully place the egg-coated peppers in the pan. Pan-fry for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy, and the peppers are tender. Enjoy your delicious, homemade Korean green pepper fritters!
