Simple and Delicious Braised Canned Tuna
Quick and Easy Canned Tuna Side Dish Recipe
I spent all day taking photos, and now that it’s evening, I’m completely drained and can’t focus on posting. I need to finish this quickly to watch the live broadcast of ‘Itaewon Class’ tonight! ^^;; Today’s menu is braised canned tuna, a simple and delicious side dish.
Ingredients- 1 can (large size) mild canned tuna
- 1/4 onion
- 1/4 carrot
- A little green onion
- Soy sauce
- Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- Minced garlic
- Oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
- Cooking wine (Mirin or similar)
- Sesame seeds
- Perilla oil (or sesame oil)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare a large can of mild canned tuna, perfect for serving with warm rice. Although I intended to cook this in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), I used a small pan as I already had doenjang jjigae simmering. You can drain the tuna oil if you prefer, or use it for extra flavor.
Step 2
Finely chop the green onions. Thinly slice the onion and carrot, then finely mince them. Mincing the vegetables finely helps the sauce to be absorbed evenly, making the dish even more delicious.
Step 3
Now, let’s make the delicious sauce! In a bowl, combine 5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of gochugaru, 2 tablespoons of oligosaccharide, 1 tablespoon of cooking wine, 1 tablespoon of perilla oil, 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic, and a generous pinch of sesame seeds. Mix well. (Note: Adjust the amount of soy sauce or oligosaccharide according to your taste preferences. I’ve made a slightly larger batch as some of this sauce can be used for other dishes.)
Step 4
Place the prepared canned tuna in the pan. Spoon 4 tablespoons of the made sauce evenly over the tuna. Gently mix everything together to ensure the sauce coats the tuna and vegetables.
Step 5
Now, simmer on low heat with the lid on until the sauce has thickened and is well absorbed by the tuna. The natural moisture from the tuna will combine with the sauce to create a flavorful braise. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Your delicious braised canned tuna side dish is ready to be served with rice!
