Learn how to make a quick and easy side dish: stir-fried shrimp and bok choy. This recipe is perfect for busy days!
Main Ingredients- 1 bowl of peeled and deveined shrimp (approx. 200-250g)
- 4 heads of bok choy
Seasoning- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp ginger & plum cooking wine (or regular cooking wine/sake)
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp ginger & plum cooking wine (or regular cooking wine/sake)
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the bok choy. Trim a small part off the base of each bok choy head. Gently separate the leaves and wash them thoroughly under running water. Shake off any excess water. This helps remove any dirt and ensures the seasoning coats the vegetables evenly.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium heat. Add 1 Tbsp of canola oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Sautéing the garlic first builds a wonderful aromatic base for the stir-fry.
Step 3
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the prepared shrimp and 1 Tbsp of ginger & plum cooking wine. Stir-fry until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through. The cooking wine helps to eliminate any fishy smell from the shrimp and adds extra flavor.
Step 4
When the shrimp are almost cooked, add the prepared bok choy to the pan. Pour in 1/2 Tbsp of soy sauce and 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce. Season with a pinch of black pepper. Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your personal taste.
Step 5
Stir everything together quickly over high heat. Cook just until the bok choy begins to wilt but remains crisp-tender – this is key to maintaining its refreshing crunch. Once the sauce has coated all the ingredients evenly, your delicious Shrimp and Bok Choy Stir-Fry is ready to serve!
