Main Ingredients

  • 20 frozen shrimp, thawed
  • 400g bean sprouts
  • 200g soybean sprouts
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 stalk green onion
  • 2 Korean chili peppers (cheongyang)
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 10 sprigs crown daisy (ssukgat)
  • 150ml anchovy broth (or kelp broth, water)

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 Tbsp seasoned soy sauce (matganjang)
  • 3 Tbsp regular soy sauce (jingan-ganjang)
  • 2 Tbsp rice wine (cheongju)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly wash the bean sprouts and soybean sprouts under running water and drain them. Be careful not to wash the bean sprouts for too long to maintain their crispness.

Step 1

Step 2

Thinly slice the onion. Slice the green onion diagonally. Deseed the Korean chili peppers and red chili peppers and chop them finely. Cut the crown daisy sprigs into 2-3 pieces.

Step 2

Step 3

Thaw the frozen shrimp in cold water. Trim off the pointed head parts, antennae, and tails for a cleaner presentation and easier eating.

Step 3

Step 4

In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, seasoned soy sauce, regular soy sauce, and rice wine. Mix well to create the seasoning sauce. Adding anchovy broth will enhance the depth of flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

In a wide pot or wok, place the prepared bean sprouts as the base layer. Then, arrange the sliced onion, soybean sprouts, and diagonally sliced green onion attractively on top. Spreading them evenly prevents clumping.

Step 5

Step 6

Neatly arrange the prepared shrimp on top of the vegetables. Ensuring the shrimp are not overlapping will help them cook evenly.

Step 6

Step 7

Pour the prepared soy sauce seasoning over the shrimp and vegetables, ensuring even distribution for maximum flavor infusion.

Step 7

Step 8

Cover the pot with a lid and bring to a boil over high heat. Once it starts boiling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium and steam for 6-7 minutes. The key is to steam just long enough to keep the bean sprouts crisp.

Step 8

Step 9

After 6-7 minutes, lift the lid. Check if the shrimp and bean sprouts are cooked through.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, garnish with the chopped chili peppers and crown daisy. Simmer for another moment to allow the flavors to meld. Your delicious steamed shrimp and bean sprouts dish is ready! The subtle aroma of crown daisy will add a wonderful fragrance. Enjoy with a warm bowl of rice!
