Seaweed Salad: Simple & Refreshing Laver Salad Recipe
Quick and Easy Laver (Gim) Salad with Fresh Seaweed
I bought 3 bunches of fresh laver (gim) that’s in season from the market in Pochen. I decided to make a simple salad with ingredients I already had at home. It’s a wonderfully refreshing dish!
Main Ingredients- 3 bunches of fresh laver (gim)
Seasoning Ingredients- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 pinch of Salt
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 stalk Scallion (finely chopped)
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 pinch of Salt
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 stalk Scallion (finely chopped)
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing the 3 bunches of fresh laver. Place the laver in a large bowl and rinse it thoroughly with cold water, gently separating the strands to remove any sand or debris. It’s crucial to wash it well. Once clean, gently squeeze out as much excess water as possible. Squeezing out the water ensures the seasoning adheres nicely and doesn’t become watery.
Step 2
Transfer the squeezed laver to a mixing bowl. Add 1 Tbsp of Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes – optional, but adds great color and flavor!), 3 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp of sugar, 3 Tbsp of vinegar, a pinch of salt, and 1/2 Tbsp of minced garlic. Finally, add the finely chopped scallion and 1/2 Tbsp of sesame seeds. Gently toss everything together with your hands until the laver is evenly coated with the seasoning. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the laver mushy. You want it lightly dressed.
Step 3
Tip: The vinegar used in this recipe is standard vinegar. If you are using a concentrated double-strength vinegar, you might want to reduce the amount to about 1.5 Tbsp. Feel free to adjust the sugar and vinegar to your personal taste.
