Main Ingredients- 4 sheets of square fish cakes (eomuk)
- 1/2 medium onion
- 1/5 carrot
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
Seasoning Ingredients- 3 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2/3 Tbsp corn syrup (optional, for gloss and added sweetness)
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 3 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2/3 Tbsp corn syrup (optional, for gloss and added sweetness)
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the vegetables that will be added with the fish cakes. Including various vegetables along with fish cakes not only makes the dish visually appealing but also adds a delightful crunchy and sweet texture. Onions, carrots, and green onions are sufficient, but feel free to add other ingredients like imitation crab sticks, mushrooms, bell peppers, or even spicy peppers according to your preference.
Step 2
Stack the 4 sheets of square fish cakes, fold them in half, and then slice them thinly into strips about 1cm wide. You can cut the fish cakes into any shape you prefer.
Step 3
Thinly slice the carrot and onion into matchsticks. Cut the green onion into pieces about 4-5cm long, then halve them lengthwise.
Step 4
Heat 2-3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a preheated frying pan. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry. Be sure to cook over medium-low heat to prevent the garlic from burning.
Step 5
Once the garlic becomes translucent and releases its fragrant aroma,
Step 6
Add the prepared green onions and stir-fry lightly with the garlic. This step deepens the flavor of the fish cake dish and brings out the natural sweetness of the green onions.
Step 7
Now, add all the sliced fish cakes to the pan and stir-fry them thoroughly. Continue stir-frying until the flavors of garlic and green onion are well coated onto the fish cakes and they start to glisten.
Step 8
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir well to combine with all the ingredients.
Step 9
Adding sugar before other sauces allows it to penetrate the fish cakes more effectively, resulting in a much tastier stir-fry.
Step 10
Next, add the sliced onions and carrots to the pan.
Step 11
Pour in 1 tablespoon of cooking wine (mirin) to help eliminate any fishy smell and add depth of flavor.
Step 12
Add 3 tablespoons of soy sauce to season. (You can also add oyster sauce if you like. Adjust the amounts of soy sauce and/or oyster sauce to suit your taste. Lightly boiling the soy sauce beforehand can enhance its flavor.)
Step 13
Corn syrup is optional, but adding about 2/3 tablespoon will give the dish a nice sweetness and a glossy finish.
Step 14
Stir-fry everything together one last time to ensure all the seasonings are well mixed with the ingredients.
Step 15
Turn off the heat, then stir in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your delicious soy sauce stir-fried fish cakes are now complete!
Step 16
There you have it! A mild and delicious soy sauce fish cake stir-fry, perfect for kids. It’s truly easy and simple to make!
