- 300g bean sprouts, washed
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (approx. 50ml)
- 50g water parsley, cut into 7cm lengths
- 30g crown daisy, cut into 7cm lengths
Flavorful Braising Sauce- 1/2 cup soy sauce (approx. 100ml)
- 350ml water
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon plum extract (maesilcheong)
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (approx. 100ml)
- 350ml water
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon plum extract (maesilcheong)
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the fragrant vegetables. Wash the water parsley and crown daisy thoroughly, then cut them into approximately 7cm lengths. This size makes them easy to eat and ensures they blend well with the sauce later.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to make the star of the dish: the braising sauce. In a wide bowl, combine the soy sauce, water, honey, minced garlic, plum extract, and black pepper. Stir well with a spoon until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Ensuring an even blend is key for the best flavor.
Step 3
In a wide and deep pot, place the washed bean sprouts at the bottom. Arrange the prepared fresh shrimp attractively on top of the bean sprouts. Pour the delicious braising sauce you just made evenly over the bean sprouts and shrimp. Don’t be shy with the sauce; a generous amount ensures every ingredient is well-coated.
Step 4
Add an additional 1/4 cup (approx. 50ml) of soy sauce to deepen the flavor. Cover the pot tightly with a lid and bring it to a boil over high heat. Starting with high heat and a covered pot helps release the natural juices from the ingredients and keeps the bean sprouts delightfully crisp.
Step 5
Once the ingredients begin to cook, remove the lid. Use a spoon to ladle the sauce over the shrimp repeatedly. This basting technique allows the soy sauce flavor to penetrate the shrimp deeply, resulting in a much tastier dish. Continue cooking for about 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp turn nicely pink.
Step 6
Finally, arrange the fragrant crown daisy and water parsley you cut earlier on top of the shrimp. Cook for just about 1 more minute until the greens are slightly wilted, then immediately turn off the heat. Your delicious soy-braised shrimp is now ready! Serve it with warm rice for a meal that disappears in an instant.
