A Delicious Twist on Braised Potatoes: Adding Sausage for Extra Flavor!
A simple and delightful side dish perfect for kids! Introducing our Sausage and Potato Stew. It’s an easy recipe that brings smiles to the table.
Main Ingredients- 1 medium potato
- 8-10 Vienna sausages
Braising Sauce- 1 cup water
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (oligo-dang)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and prepare the potato. Cut it into bite-sized pieces for even cooking and easy eating. For the Vienna sausages, make a few shallow scores on each one to help them absorb flavor and slightly puff up when cooked. (Alternatively, you can cut them in half).
Step 2
Place the cut potatoes in a pot and cover with just enough water to submerge them. Par-boil the potatoes. This step is crucial: it prevents the potatoes from falling apart during the braising process, speeds up cooking, and results in a wonderfully tender texture.
Step 3
Don’t cook the potatoes until they are completely soft. Aim for an ‘al dente’ texture, where a fork can easily pierce them but they still hold their shape (about 5-7 minutes of boiling). Drain them once they reach this stage.
Step 4
Now, let’s start the braising! Add 1 cup of water to a clean pot.

Add the par-boiled potatoes to the pot. Then, add the scored Vienna sausages. You can also add the sausages a little later in the cooking process if you prefer them firmer, as they cook very quickly.

Combine all the braising sauce ingredients, except for the sesame oil. This includes: 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic, 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, and 1 Tbsp sugar.

Stir everything together to combine the sauce. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and let it gently braise. Cook until the potatoes are tender and the sauce has reduced and thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. If you’re adding the sausages later, now would be a good time to add them.
Step 8
Once the sauce has thickened nicely and the potatoes are infused with flavor, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a glossy finish and wonderful aroma. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for garnish, if desired.
