Main Ingredients
  • 1 pack Salted Sea Mustard Stems (approx. 200-250g)

Seasoning & Others
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp fish sauce (or soy sauce for soup)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp perilla oil
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, it’s crucial to remove the saltiness from the salted sea mustard stems. Rinse them thoroughly under cold running water several times. After rinsing, soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes to adequately leach out the salt. Once the saltiness is reduced, drain them completely in a colander. Then, cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 3-4 cm long.

Step 2

Heat a pan over medium heat and add 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Swirl the pan to ensure the oil coats the bottom evenly.

Step 3

Add 2 tablespoons of minced garlic to the pan. Sauté the garlic over medium heat until it becomes fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic while sautéing.

Step 4

Once the garlic is fragrant, add the drained sea mustard stems to the pan. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of fish sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir-fry over medium-high heat, quickly combining all the ingredients. Continue to stir-fry until the sea mustard stems soften slightly.

Step 5

Finally, drizzle 1 tablespoon of perilla oil around the edges of the pan to enhance the aroma. After adding the perilla oil, stir-fry for just another 10-20 seconds, just enough to lightly mix it with the other ingredients. This ensures the nutty fragrance of the perilla oil remains vibrant.

Step 6

Transfer the finished stir-fried sea mustard stems to a serving plate. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds on top for added flavor and visual appeal. This completes your delicious and savory stir-fried sea mustard stems, ready to be enjoyed with a bowl of warm rice!
