Savory Stir-Fried Oysters with Oyster Sauce: A Quick and Delicious Side Dish
How to Make Stir-Fried Oysters: Delicious as a Side Dish When Cooked with Oyster Sauce
Never thought of stir-frying oysters for a side dish, did you? This recipe transforms fresh oysters into a delightful, savory dish perfect for any meal.
Main Ingredients- 200g fresh oysters
- 1/2 large green onion (scallion)
- 1 hot pepper (e.g., Serrano or Korean Cheongyang chili)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gently rinse the fresh oysters under running water using a sieve. Remove any shell fragments or impurities and drain them well. Finely chop the green onion. Deseed the hot pepper if you prefer less heat, then finely chop it as well. If you enjoy a spicier kick, feel free to leave the seeds in.
Step 2
Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onion and sauté until fragrant and slightly softened, infusing the oil with its aroma to create ‘green onion oil.’ Once the green onion starts to turn golden, add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 3
Now, add the prepared oysters to the pan. Stir-fry them just until they turn opaque and are cooked through. Avoid overcooking, as this can make the oysters tough. The goal is to maintain their tender, plump texture.
Step 4
As the oysters cook, they will release some of their natural juices. This liquid adds a wonderful depth of flavor to the dish.
Step 5
Once the oysters are mostly cooked, add the oyster sauce, soy sauce, and cooking wine. Stir well to combine. Add the chopped hot pepper and a pinch of black pepper. Continue to stir-fry over medium heat until most of the liquid has evaporated and the sauce has thickened slightly, coating the oysters beautifully. Your delicious stir-fried oysters are ready!
Step 6
And there you have it – perfectly stir-fried oysters! Oyster sauce is a fantastic ingredient for adding umami to almost any dish, and its pairing with fresh oysters creates an even more delightful flavor explosion. Serve this over hot rice or enjoy it with fresh lettuce wraps for a refreshing meal. A sprinkle of sesame seeds on top adds a final touch of nutty aroma and flavor!
