Main Ingredients

  • 10 pieces Okra (Lady’s Finger, approx. 125g)
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking Oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

This recipe yields about 2 servings as a side dish. Prepare 10 pieces of fresh okra (approximately 125g). Wash them thoroughly and ensure they are completely dry; this is crucial for a good texture. You can also make a larger batch and store it in the refrigerator for later enjoyment.

Step 1

Step 2

Slice the 10 pieces of okra and the medium onion to about 3-4mm thickness, as thinly as possible. Slicing them thinly not only speeds up the cooking time but also enhances their crisp and delicious texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over high heat. First, add the thinly sliced onions and stir-fry until they turn a golden brown color. This step brings out the natural sweetness of the onions.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the onions are well stir-fried, add the sliced okra. Then, add 1 teaspoon of gochugaru, 1 teaspoon of soy sauce for seasoning, and 1 pinch of salt. Stir-fry everything together over high heat for about 3 minutes. During cooking, you can taste a piece of okra and adjust the salt to your preference for the perfect seasoning. (If you don’t have ‘Mat Ganjang’, you can substitute it with 1 tsp of regular soy sauce mixed with a pinch of Dashida or MSG.)

Your delicious stir-fried okra and onion dish is ready! The delightful combination of spicy, sweet, and savory flavors makes this an irresistible side dish that pairs perfectly with rice. Enjoy this flavorful and healthy treat!
