Main Ingredients

  • 1 can Ham (approx. 200g)
  • 1/2 Bell Pepper (using different colors makes it more visually appealing!)
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 0.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • A pinch of Black Pepper
  • A sprinkle of Toasted Sesame Seeds

Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Cooking Wine (e.g., Mirin)
  • 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 0.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 0.5 Tbsp Oligodang (or corn syrup)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare all your ingredients. Cut the ham into 1cm thick slices, and chop the onion and bell pepper into similarly sized chunks. Cutting them this way ensures a pleasant texture and makes them easy to eat.

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp cooking wine, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 0.5 Tbsp soy sauce, and 0.5 Tbsp oligodang. Whisk well to create a delicious sauce. You can substitute corn syrup for oligodang if preferred.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat 2 Tbsp cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic; stir-frying it until a gentle aroma is released is key.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the garlic is fragrant, add the thickly sliced ham and onion to the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat. The fat from the ham will render and blend with the onions, adding a wonderful depth of flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

When the onions begin to turn translucent, add the chopped bell pepper and stir-fry together. Avoid overcooking the bell peppers, as they can become mushy. Stir-fry just until they are slightly softened to maintain a crisp texture.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the vegetables are lightly cooked, pour in the prepared sauce and stir-fry quickly for about 1 minute, ensuring the sauce coats all the ingredients evenly. The oyster sauce will significantly enhance the umami flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Turn off the heat! Finally, sprinkle generously with toasted sesame seeds for added nuttiness. Your delicious stir-fried ham and vegetables are now complete! It’s absolutely wonderful served over hot rice.
