Seasoning- 3 Tbsp fish sauce (anchovy or sand lance)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1/3 Tbsp ginger syrup (or a tiny bit of minced ginger)
- 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds (whole or crushed)
- 3 Tbsp fish sauce (anchovy or sand lance)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1/3 Tbsp ginger syrup (or a tiny bit of minced ginger)
- 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds (whole or crushed)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the fresh seaweed. Start with 3 bundles of parae. Gently rub them with 1 tablespoon of coarse sea salt to wash. This step helps to reduce any slightly bitter taste and cleans the seaweed thoroughly.
Step 2
Rinse the washed seaweed several times under cold running water. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear. This is crucial for removing any residual sea salt and any less-than-pleasant oceanic flavors, ensuring a clean taste. After rinsing, drain the seaweed well in a colander.
Step 3
Now, let’s make the delicious dressing! In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of fish sauce, 1 tablespoon of gochugaru, 1/3 tablespoon of ginger syrup, 1/3 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 1/2 tablespoon of sesame seeds. Mix everything evenly. If you don’t have ginger syrup, a very small amount of minced fresh ginger can be used as a substitute.
Step 4
Add the drained seaweed to the bowl with the dressing. Gently toss and mix with your hands until the seaweed is well coated with the seasoning. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the delicate seaweed mushy. Aim for an even distribution of the flavorful dressing.
Step 5
Transfer the seasoned seaweed salad to a serving dish. Your flavorful Seaweed Salad (Parae Muchim) is now ready, bursting with the fresh taste of the sea! Enjoy this delightful, refreshing, and slightly spicy side dish that pairs perfectly with any meal.
