Savory Sausage and Garlic Scape Stir-Fry
A Delicious Side Dish: Sausage and Garlic Scape Stir-Fry for Kids
Here’s a garlic scape stir-fry recipe made with sweet sausages, perfect for even a 7-year-old! It’s savory and slightly sweet, making it an excellent side dish for rice.
Main Ingredients- 14 garlic scapes
- 12 small sausages
- 0.5 Tbsp coarse salt (for blanching garlic scapes)
Seasoning- 2.5 to 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 2.5 to 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the garlic scapes thoroughly. Trim off the tough ends and cut them into bite-sized pieces (about 3-4 cm long).
Step 2
I made a small batch for tasting, but feel free to use a whole bunch of garlic scapes. I used one small package of sausages. (You can also use other types of sausages according to your preference.)
Step 3
Cut the sausages into similar bite-sized pieces as the garlic scapes. I sliced mine on an angle for a more appealing look.
Step 4
To remove the slightly pungent flavor of the garlic scapes, we’ll blanch them briefly. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add 0.5 Tbsp of coarse salt, and add the garlic scapes. Blanch for 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, or they will become mushy. After blanching, immediately rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking and cool them down.
Step 5
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Add the sliced sausages and the blanched garlic scapes together and stir-fry.
Step 6
Prepare the seasoning: Add 2.5 to 3 Tbsp of soy sauce and 1 Tbsp of sugar to the pan and mix well. If you’re using a whole bunch of garlic scapes, you might want to add an extra 2-3 Tbsp of soy sauce to adjust the flavor. Since the garlic scapes have already been blanched, they don’t need to be cooked for long; stir-fry for just another 1-2 minutes until the seasoning coats everything evenly. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds for added nutty flavor and aroma.
Step 7
As expected, my daughter picked out and ate only the sausages, while my husband enjoyed the garlic scapes! Haha! Next time, I’ll be back with a spicy version using gochujang (red chili paste). ^^
