Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start making this delicious braised mackerel with radish! This recipe is designed to be easy for anyone to follow, even with simple ingredients.

Step 1

Step 2

First, we’ll prepare the braising sauce, which is the key to a flavorful dish. In a pot or bowl, pour in 500ml of water or anchovy-kelp stock. Add 1 Tbsp of Korean chili powder, 2 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tsp of sugar, 1 tsp of minced garlic, and finally, a handful of chopped green onions. Mix everything well. This soy sauce-based sauce will infuse the mackerel and radish with a deep, rich flavor.

Step 3

Now, let’s prepare the pot for braising. First, arrange the radish, cut into bite-sized pieces (about 2cm thick), at the bottom of the pot. The radish will absorb the sauce as it cooks, becoming wonderfully tender and delicious to eat with the fish. Next, place the cleaned salted mackerel pieces attractively on top of the radish. Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the mackerel and radish. Begin to cook over high heat, and once the sauce starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes. To prevent the sauce from burning, it’s a good idea to spoon some of the sauce over the ingredients occasionally as it simmers.

Step 4

Once the radish is tender and the sauce has reduced to a nice glaze, your delicious braised mackerel with radish is ready! Placing a piece on top of warm rice is absolutely delightful. Don’t forget to mix the remaining sauce with your rice – it’s incredibly tasty! Enjoy this satisfying meal.
