How to Make Braised Mackerel with Radish: Salty and Deep Flavored Side Dish for Dinner
Let’s make delicious braised mackerel with radish, where the seasoning soaks in perfectly.
Main Ingredients- 1.5 salted mackerel fillets
- 1/2 Korean radish (daikon, approx. 300g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, we’re going to make a flavorful and savory braised mackerel with radish, a perfect side dish for dinner. It’s a real rice thief!
Step 2
First, let’s prepare the delicious braising sauce. In a bowl, combine 500ml of stock (anchovy or kelp), 1 tablespoon of chili powder, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic. Mix them well.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the radish. Spread the radish, cut into bite-sized pieces (about 1-1.5cm thick), on the bottom of a pot. The radish will absorb the sauce and become sweet and delicious.
Step 4
Arrange the prepared salted mackerel fillets on top of the radish. Be gentle to prevent the fish from breaking.
Step 5
Pour the braising sauce evenly over the mackerel and radish. Add the large pieces of green onion for garnish. Now, cover the pot and get ready to cook.
Step 6
Start by bringing the pot to a boil over high heat. Once it’s boiling, reduce the heat to medium. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced and the radish is tender. Basting the fish with the sauce occasionally will enhance the flavor. Towards the end, lower the heat to low to let the sauce thicken slightly.
Step 7
And there you have it – a delicious braised mackerel with radish! The combination of savory mackerel and sweet, tender radish is truly wonderful. You’ll find the radish, which absorbs the sauce so well, becomes even tastier than the fish and you’ll want to eat it first. Enjoy with a bowl of hot rice!
