Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables for the tteokbokki. Slice the 2/3 onion thinly and diagonally slice the 1/5 green onion. Lightly oil a pan, add the sliced onions and green onions, and stir-fry over medium heat until fragrant. It’s good if the vegetables become slightly translucent.
Step 2
Next, prepare the rice cakes. Soak the tteokguk tteok in cold water for about 10 minutes until they become soft and pliable. This prevents the rice cakes from sticking together and ensures they cook evenly.
Step 3
Push the stir-fried vegetables to one side of the pan to create space. Add the 2 slices of beef for grilling to this space and sear quickly on both sides over high heat. Wipe away any blood that rises to the surface with a paper towel to remove any gamey odor.
Step 4
Once the beef is browned, evenly sprinkle 7 pinches of black garlic salt over the meat and vegetables for seasoning. Gently shake the pan to combine the juices from the vegetables and the beef broth, then add the soaked rice cakes and stir-fry together.
Step 5
Now, cut the beef into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm). Add 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce for a rich flavor and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic for a pungent aroma to the cut beef.
Step 6
Stir-fry quickly to ensure all ingredients and seasonings are well combined. Once the rice cakes are soft and the sauce has evenly coated everything, turn off the heat. Finally, grind some whole black peppercorns to taste for added fragrance, then serve beautifully on a plate.
Step 7
Your simple yet elegant Beef Tteokbokki is ready! We used black garlic salt for an extra depth of flavor. If you prefer a milder garlic taste, feel free to adjust the amount of minced garlic to your liking. Enjoy your delicious meal!
