Main Ingredients

  • 100g Korean Green Peppers (Kkwari Gochu, about 10-15 peppers)
  • 3 Tbsp Soybean Powder (Konggaru)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the Korean green peppers thoroughly and pat them completely dry. You can trim off the stems or make a small slit down each pepper; this helps the seasoning penetrate better and ensures even cooking. Place the washed peppers in a bowl and add 3 tablespoons of soybean powder. Toss them well to coat evenly. If the soybean powder isn’t sticking well, you can lightly mist the peppers with water from a spray bottle to help the coating adhere better. Be careful not to spray too much, or it might become clumpy.

Step 1

Step 2

Transfer the soybean powder-coated peppers to a microwave-safe dish. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and poke 2-3 holes in the wrap with a fork. This step traps moisture, keeping the peppers tender and preventing them from drying out during cooking. Microwave on high for 3 to 4 minutes (for a 700W microwave). Adjust the cooking time as needed until the peppers are tender.

Step 2

Step 3

Once cooked, carefully remove the dish from the microwave and let it cool slightly. In a separate bowl, combine the steamed peppers with all the seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp anchovy sauce (or soy sauce), 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds, and 1 tsp sesame oil. Gently toss everything together until the peppers are well coated with the seasoning. Your delicious steamed Korean green peppers are ready to be served! They are great served immediately or chilled.
