Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, we’re making a truly irresistible side dish: braised pollack roe that’s savory, spicy, and slightly sweet. It’s a simple yet impressive side dish that’s perfect for any meal.

Step 1

Step 2

First, prepare 6 pieces of pollack roe. Gently pat them dry with a paper towel. Carefully place the roe into a pan, being mindful not to burst the eggs. Add 1/3 cup (approximately 60ml) of water to the pan.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, it’s time to add the seasoning. Add 1 teaspoon of gochugaru (Korean chili powder). If you like it spicier, finely chop 1 Cheongyang chili pepper and add it as well. For a touch of sweetness, add 1 teaspoon of oligodang (corn syrup), or you can use mulyeot (rice syrup) or sugar. After adding all the ingredients, reduce the heat to low. It’s crucial to simmer gently so the seasoning doesn’t burn and reduces nicely onto the roe.

Step 3

Step 4

While it’s simmering, gently prick the pollack roe with chopsticks a few times. This helps the savory sauce penetrate the eggs more effectively. Also, flip the roe occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking. Continue to simmer on low heat until the sauce thickens and coats the roe beautifully. Your delicious braised pollack roe is now ready!
