Main Ingredients- 100g fresh cabbage, thinly shredded
- 2 crab sticks, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 onion, thinly sliced
- 10cm section of green onion, finely chopped
- 1 bowl cooked rice
- 200ml water
- 1 bouillon cube (for stock)
- 1 Tbsp tuna extract (or fish sauce)
- Pinch of salt, to taste
- Pinch of pepper, to taste
Thickening Slurry- 2 Tbsp potato starch
- 2 Tbsp water
- 2 Tbsp potato starch
- 2 Tbsp water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by prepping the vegetables! Finely chop the green onion for aroma. Thinly slice the onion to bring out its sweetness. Cut the tender crab sticks into convenient, bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
Thinly shred the fresh cabbage. A quick rinse under cold water can help maintain its crispiness. After rinsing, drain it thoroughly in a colander to remove excess water. This ensures a better texture when stir-frying.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the slurry to thicken the sauce. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of potato starch with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Mix well until there are no lumps. Having this ready will make the cooking process smoother.
Step 4
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onions and stir-fry until fragrant, creating a savory green onion oil. Then, add the sliced onions and shredded cabbage. Sauté until the onions become translucent, which will bring out their natural sweetness.
Step 5
Once the vegetables are well sautéed, pour in 200ml of water. Add the cut crab sticks and the bouillon cube. The bouillon cube will add a wonderful depth of flavor to the dish.
Step 6
Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally until the bouillon cube is completely dissolved. Once dissolved, stir in 1 tablespoon of tuna extract. Season with a pinch of salt to your preference. If needed, add a little more salt to achieve the perfect taste.
Step 7
Finally, gradually pour in the prepared starch slurry while stirring constantly. The sauce will thicken as it simmers. Once it reaches a desired consistency, your delicious Cabbage Crab Stick Rice Bowl is ready! Serve generously over a bowl of warm rice and enjoy.
