Main Ingredients

  • 1 bag dried jujubes
  • 750g honey (1 bottle)
  • 1 fresh pear
  • 2L water

Washing Ingredients

  • 10 Tbsp baking soda

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start by making delicious jujube tea! First, lightly rinse the dried jujubes under running water to remove surface dust. Brush off any large particles and carefully check for any foreign matter.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, it’s time for a more thorough cleaning. Sprinkle 10 tablespoons of baking soda evenly over the jujubes. Baking soda is effective in removing residues and stickiness from the surface of the jujubes. Gently rub them with your hands to wash them thoroughly.

Step 2

Step 3

Drain the thoroughly washed jujubes well by placing them in a sieve. Properly draining the water will help create a deeper, richer flavor during the simmering process later.

Step 3

Step 4

Wash the fresh pear and then cut it into large chunks. Make sure to completely remove the seeds and the hard stem parts. Removing the seeds and stems is important as they can impart a bitter taste.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, place the sliced pear at the bottom of the Oku steamer basket. Layer the drained jujubes on top. The pear will help neutralize any tartness from the jujubes and add a subtle sweetness.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour the entire 750g bottle of honey over the prepared jujubes. Honey plays a crucial role in enhancing the sweetness of the jujubes and deepening their flavor. You can adjust the amount of honey to your preference.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the ingredients are ready, place them in the Oku cooker and set the ‘Confiture’ (Preserve) mode for 6 hours. The Oku’s confiture function is perfect for gently simmering ingredients to extract a deep flavor.

Step 7

Step 8

After 6 hours, pour the finished jujube paste through a fine sieve to separate the solids (seeds and jujube pulp) from the clear liquid. Gently press down with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.

Step 8

Step 9

The clear jujube paste essence collected here can be enjoyed as a delicious jujube tea by mixing an appropriate amount with warm water. You can add more honey if desired.

Step 9

Step 10

Don’t want to waste the leftover solids? You can simmer them again to extract even more flavor. Collect the strained jujube seeds and mashed jujube pulp, place them back in the Oku, and select the ‘Simmer’ mode for an additional 2 hours. The extra effort will yield an even richer taste.

Step 10

Step 11

For the second simmering process, add 2 liters of water and return the previously strained jujube remnants to the Oku. Simmer thoroughly on the ‘Simmer’ mode for 2 hours.

Step 11

Step 12

Strain the liquid from the second simmering and combine it with the first batch of essence in a pot to reduce. Simmer until the consistency is thick enough that it splatters when stirred with a spatula. To prevent splattering, it’s important to simmer with the lid on, stirring occasionally. Be careful not to let it burn.

Step 12

Step 13

Mix a serving of this rich jujube paste with warm water, and you’ll experience an immediate relief from coughing! You’ll feel your throat soothed after just one day. This homemade jujube paste is also a wonderful gift for loved ones, especially elders. Share the gift of health with a warm heart.
