Curry Ingredients

  • Solid Curry Roux, 4 blocks (4 segments)
  • Beef, stewing cut, 300g
  • Olive Oil, 1 Tbsp
  • Salt, 2-3 pinches
  • Black Pepper, to taste
  • Onion, 1 medium
  • Carrot, 1/3 medium
  • Potato, 2 medium
  • Water, 700ml

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables. Chop one medium onion, one-third of a medium carrot, and two medium potatoes. If your children are picky eaters, try cutting the vegetables like carrots into very small pieces. Conversely, if you enjoy the texture of vegetables, you can cut them into larger chunks for a more satisfying bite. Adjust the vegetable size according to your preference. You can also add other vegetables you like, such as zucchini or broccoli. Curry is an excellent dish for utilizing various vegetables from your refrigerator, so feel free to add plenty of seasonal produce.

Step 1

Step 2

Gently pat the beef with paper towels to remove any excess blood. This step helps to eliminate any gamey or off-putting odors from the meat.

Step 2

Step 3

To the beef, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2-3 pinches of salt, and a sprinkle of black pepper for seasoning. Marinating the beef beforehand will make it more tender and flavorful.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a pan over medium heat and add the seasoned beef. Sauté the beef until it is about 80% cooked. Searing the beef first helps to seal in the juices, keeping the meat moist and tender.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the beef is about 80% cooked, add the harder vegetables, carrots and potatoes, first. Sauté them with the beef for about 1 minute. This allows the vegetables to start cooking and soften alongside the meat, reducing the overall cooking time.

Step 5

Step 6

Next, add the chopped onion and sauté lightly until the vegetables become slightly translucent. Cooking the onions until they turn translucent will bring out their natural sweetness, enhancing the overall flavor of the curry.

Step 6

Step 7

Pour 700ml of water into the pan with the sautéed ingredients. The amount of water can be adjusted based on your desired curry consistency. If you prefer a thinner curry, feel free to add a little more water.

Step 7

Step 8

Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the potatoes and carrots are tender and the liquid has slightly reduced. Stir occasionally to prevent the curry from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Step 8

Step 9

Once the vegetables are cooked and the broth has simmered, reduce the heat to low. Add the 4 blocks of solid curry roux. Stir well with a spatula, breaking up the curry blocks until they are fully dissolved and evenly distributed.

Step 9

Step 10

The solid curry roux will quickly dissolve into the broth, creating a thick and delicious beef curry. You’ll notice a richer and deeper flavor compared to powder curry. Even if you usually use powder curry, you’ll likely be impressed by the convenience and wonderful taste of solid curry blocks. Many domestic brands also offer excellent solid curry options, so don’t hesitate to try them! With plenty of seasonal vegetables and fresh beef, this nutritious curry is a fantastic way to simplify your meal planning and provide a satisfying, delicious meal for the whole family. Highly recommended!
