Main Ingredients- Beef (for stew) 300g
- Rice cake slices for soup (tteokguk tteok) 500g
- Store-bought beef bone broth 2 small packets
Seasoning and Garnish- Salt 1 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Minced garlic 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper powder, a pinch
- Green onion (optional, finely chopped)
- Egg garnish (optional, for topping)
- Salt 1 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Minced garlic 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper powder, a pinch
- Green onion (optional, finely chopped)
- Egg garnish (optional, for topping)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Soak the rice cake slices (tteokguk tteok) in lukewarm water for about 10-15 minutes until they become soft and pliable. This prevents them from breaking apart and ensures they cook evenly.
Step 2
Prepare the beef for stew by cutting it into bite-sized pieces. Removing the blood will result in a cleaner flavor.
Step 3
Pour the two packets of store-bought beef bone broth into a pot. Add about 1.5 to 2 cups of water to dilute the broth (adjust based on the richness of your broth). Bring the broth to a rolling boil over high heat.
Step 4
Once the broth is boiling, add the prepared beef and the soaked rice cake slices. Cook together, stirring occasionally with a spatula to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Step 5
When the rice cakes float to the surface and are tender, add the minced garlic, black pepper powder, and salt to season. Adjust the saltiness to your preference. (Tip: For extra freshness, add finely chopped green onions just before serving. You can also prepare a thin egg omelet, slice it into strips, and use it as a garnish.)
Step 6
Your delicious Seolleongtang rice cake soup, enriched with the deep flavor of beef bone broth, tender beef, and chewy rice cakes, is now complete! Enjoy this warm and comforting dish.
