Matcha Latte Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp high-quality matcha powder
  • 5 Tbsp warm water (approx. 50ml)
  • 5 Tbsp cold water (approx. 50ml)
  • 180ml cold milk (up to 200ml is acceptable)
  • 1 Tbsp honey or corn syrup (adjust sweetness as desired)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 2 tablespoons of high-quality matcha powder, the star of your matcha latte. Sieving it beforehand will help create a smoother blend without lumps.

Step 1

Step 2

Add 5 tablespoons of warm water to the matcha powder and whisk thoroughly until smooth and lump-free, using a whisk or a bamboo matcha brush. Warm water helps to enhance the matcha’s flavor profile.

Step 2

Step 3

Pour the well-dissolved matcha base directly into the cup you’ll be serving your latte in. Next, add another 5 tablespoons of cold water to dilute the matcha base slightly.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s prepare the milk. Use 180ml of cold milk. If you prefer a richer taste, you can use up to 200ml; feel free to adjust the milk quantity to your preference. Using cold milk is key to a refreshing and delicious latte.

Step 4

Step 5

Add 1 tablespoon of honey to the milk to sweeten it. If you don’t have honey, corn syrup works just as well. Adjust the sweetness level to suit your personal taste.

Step 5

Step 6

In this step, we’ll be creating milk foam. If you don’t have a milk frother, we’ll use a clever trick with aluminum foil! Take a piece of clean aluminum foil and crumple it into a ball.

Step 6

Step 7

Pour the cold milk (with honey) into a tightly sealing thermos or bottle. Add the crumpled aluminum foil ball. Crumpling the foil creates uneven surfaces and increases surface area, helping the milk to disperse. As the milk moves through the foil’s crevices, it naturally creates foam. It’s like creating a mini vortex to help the milk mix well.

Step 7

Step 8

Securely close the lid of the thermos and shake vigorously for about 1 to 2 minutes. The more you shake, the richer and creamier your milk foam will become.

Step 8

Step 9

Open the thermos, and you’ll see the wonderfully rich and creamy milk foam that has formed! Isn’t that neat?

Step 9

Step 10

Carefully pour the prepared milk foam over the matcha base in your cup. Watching the foam settle on top looks beautiful.

Step 10

Step 11

The soft milk foam has beautifully layered on top of the matcha latte. It’s a visual treat that makes you feel good just looking at it.

Step 11

Step 12

And there you have it – your delicious matcha latte is complete! For an extra touch, you can sieve a little more matcha powder on top, though it may dissolve over time. If you prefer it extra cold, feel free to add a few ice cubes. Give this simple yet delicious homemade matcha latte a try – you’ll love it!
