- Butter 24g (for greasing the waffle maker)
Optional- Coconut powder, a little (for garnish, optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a mixing bowl, combine the hotcake mix and rice flour. Using rice flour gives the waffles a wonderful subtle nuttiness and a delightful texture.
Step 2
Crack the egg into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Use a whisk to beat the egg, breaking the yolk and mixing it with the white until well combined and slightly frothy.
Step 3
Gradually add the milk, starting with a small amount, while whisking. Continue to add milk little by little until you achieve the desired batter consistency. You want a smooth, flowing batter.
Step 4
The perfect batter consistency is when it flows smoothly from the whisk, like a thick ribbon. If it’s too thick, add a tiny bit more milk; if too thin, you can add a pinch more hotcake mix. Aim for a consistency that drizzles easily.
Step 5
Turn on your waffle maker and allow it to preheat fully. A hot waffle maker is key to achieving crispy waffles.
Step 6
Cut the butter into four equal portions. This butter will be used to grease the waffle maker, preventing sticking and adding a rich flavor.
Step 7
Once the waffle maker is hot, place one portion of butter onto the top plate and another onto the bottom plate.
Step 8
Allow the butter to melt completely. The heat from the waffle maker will melt it quickly.
Step 9
Once melted, gently tilt or rotate the waffle maker to ensure the melted butter evenly coats the entire surface of both plates. This step helps create that perfect crispy exterior.
Step 10
Carefully pour the prepared batter onto the hot waffle maker. Pouring too much can cause overflow, so start with an amount that seems appropriate for your waffle maker’s size.
Step 11
Pouring the batter towards the center of the waffle maker allows it to spread evenly as you close the lid, ensuring a uniform waffle shape.
Step 12
Close the lid of the waffle maker and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions. You’ll know it’s close to done when you start to see a little steam escaping.
Step 13
For an extra crispy finish, carefully flip the waffle maker over and cook the other side for a short while. This ensures both sides are beautifully golden brown and crisp.
Step 14
Once the waffle is a lovely golden brown color, it’s ready! Carefully remove it from the waffle maker.
Step 15
For a decorative touch, you can lightly sprinkle some coconut powder over the finished waffle. Enjoy your delicious homemade waffle while it’s warm!
