When your appetite is lacking, a zesty and refreshing seaweed salad can awaken your taste buds! This mixed seaweed salad with a sweet and sour dressing is simple to make and a perfect way to add a burst of flavor.
Main Ingredients- 300g assorted seaweed
Sweet & Sour Dressing- 1.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 0.5 Tbsp soup soy sauce (or regular soy sauce)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or honey/sugar)
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or similar)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 0.5 Tbsp soup soy sauce (or regular soy sauce)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or honey/sugar)
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or similar)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by rinsing the salted assorted seaweed. Place it in a bowl of cold water and let it soak to remove excess salt. The package might suggest 10 minutes, but to truly get rid of the saltiness, it’s best to soak it for at least 30 minutes to an hour. If it still tastes too salty after 30 minutes, change the water and soak it for longer.
Step 2
Once the saltiness has been reduced, rinse the assorted seaweed thoroughly under cold running water and drain well. In a separate bowl, combine the dressing ingredients: gochujang (1.5 Tbsp), soup soy sauce (0.5 Tbsp), plum extract (1 Tbsp), cooking wine (1 Tbsp), minced garlic (0.5 Tbsp), sesame seeds (0.5 Tbsp), and vinegar (2 Tbsp). Mix everything together until you have a smooth, flavorful dressing.
Step 3
Add the drained assorted seaweed to the bowl with the dressing. Gently mix and toss with your hands (jo-mul jo-mul) until all the seaweed strands are evenly coated with the dressing. Be sure to distribute the seasoning well without crushing the delicate seaweed.
Step 4
Your delicious and refreshing mixed seaweed salad with sweet and sour dressing is now complete! This dish is perfect as a side for rice when your appetite is low, or enjoy it as a light and healthy salad.
