Main Ingredients

  • 6 rice paper wrappers
  • 3 fresh figs
  • 1/4 cucumber
  • 1/6 head of lettuce
  • 1/6 head of cabbage
  • 1/4 carrot

Special Sauce (Tablespoon Measurement)

  • 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup)
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your fresh figs. Don’t worry if they’re slightly soft; they’ll be delicious in the salad wraps! Here’s a tip for choosing good figs: look for ones where the split part isn’t dried out and the overall color is uniform. If the split looks dry, the fig likely has less honey and might be a bit mealy. Aim for figs that look plump and moist on the outside.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut each fig in half, then cut each half into two, creating quarter sections. Carefully remove the flesh from the skin using a filleting motion. Think of one of these flesh portions as being enough for one wrap. Gently separate and prepare the fig flesh.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, it’s time to prepare the crisp vegetables for your salad wraps. Lightly peel the cucumber and julienne it. Julienne the carrot as well. Tear the lettuce into bite-sized pieces, and thinly slice the cabbage.

Step 3

Step 4

Let’s make the special sauce that will elevate your fig salad wraps! The combination of the fig’s sweetness and this sauce is truly wonderful. Combine 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise with 1 tablespoon of oligodang (corn syrup). Add a pinch of salt for seasoning. Finally, generously add 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. The nutty crunch of the sesame seeds will significantly enhance the flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, you’ll need to soften the rice paper wrappers in lukewarm water. You don’t need to wait until they are completely floppy. Briefly dip both sides until they become pliable, then immediately place them on a cutting board or work surface.

Step 5

Step 6

On the softened rice paper, arrange a layer of shredded cabbage, lettuce, carrot, and cucumber. Top this with the prepared fig flesh (about 1/4 of a fig portion).

Step 6

Step 7

Add about 1/2 tablespoon of the special sauce you made. That’s it for the filling! Avoid overstuffing the wraps; aim for a balanced ratio of ingredients that allows you to create neat, bite-sized portions.

Step 7

Step 8

Now for the fun part – wrapping! I decided to try a cute, fig-shaped wrap. Gather all four corners of the rice paper towards the center, like you’re making a dumpling. Then, twist the top part tightly. As the wrapper dries slightly, it will hold its shape beautifully. Create all your wraps using this same method, wrapping them with care.
