Ingredients- 1 pack fresh clams (approx. 200-300g)
- 1/2 pack dried seaweed (approx. 10-15g)
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 liter water (approx. 5 cups)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp soup soy sauce (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 1 pack of fresh clams. Wash the clams thoroughly under running water multiple times to remove any dirt or debris stuck to the shells. If any clams are not purged of sand, you can soak them in saltwater for a while and then rinse before using.
Step 2
Prepare half a pack of dried seaweed. Soak the dried seaweed in cold water for about 10-15 minutes until it’s rehydrated. Once fully softened, rinse it under cold water several times to remove excess salt, and squeeze out any excess water. Cutting it into bite-sized pieces will make it easier to eat.
Step 3
Now, let’s start preparing to cook. Heat a pot over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of sesame oil. You’ll know it’s ready when the fragrant sesame aroma starts to rise.
Step 4
Add the entire pack of washed clams to the heated pot. Sautéing the clams first helps reduce any fishy smell and enhances their savory flavor.
Step 5
Once the clams start to cook and open slightly, add the rehydrated seaweed you prepared. Stir-frying the seaweed with the clams allows the clam’s flavor to infuse into the seaweed.
Step 6
Stir-fry the seaweed and clams together over medium-low heat for about 2-3 minutes. Continue until the clam shells start to open and the seaweed becomes tender. This sautéing step is crucial for developing a deep flavor in the soup.
Step 7
Once the seaweed and clams are well sautéed, pour in 1 liter (about 5 cups) of water. Turn the heat up to high and bring the soup to a rolling boil.
Step 8
When the soup starts boiling, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic. Minced garlic will add a refreshing taste and aroma to the broth.
Step 9
Finally, add 1 tablespoon of soup soy sauce to season the soup. Since clams have their own saltiness, taste the broth and adjust the amount of soy sauce, or add a little salt if needed, for the perfect balance.
Step 10
While cooking, skim off any foam that rises to the surface for a clearer and more delicious soup. Once all the ingredients have melded together and the soup is perfectly cooked, your delicious clam and seaweed soup is ready! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice.
