Main Ingredients

  • 2 fresh squids

Special Gochujang Dip

  • 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the fresh squid by thoroughly cleaning them. Remove the innards and any cartilage. You can choose to peel off the skin or leave it on, depending on your preference. Rinse them well under running water.

Step 1

Step 2

Bring a generous amount of water to a rolling boil in a pot. Once the water is boiling vigorously, carefully add the whole prepared squid. Blanch for a very short time, about 20 to 30 seconds maximum. Be careful not to overcook, as this will make the squid tough!

Step 2

Step 3

While the squid is blanching, let’s whip up the delicious Gochujang dip! In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp Gochujang, 2 Tbsp vinegar, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds, and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Stir everything together thoroughly with a spoon until well combined. This creates a perfect harmony of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors.

Step 3

Step 4

Once blanched, quickly rinse the squid under cold water to stop the cooking process and cool them down. Then, slice the squid into bite-sized pieces, about 1 to 1.5 cm thick. Dip these tender squid pieces into the prepared Gochujang dip. It’s absolutely perfect as a side dish for rice or as a satisfying snack with your favorite beverage, like beer or soju. Enjoy the wonderful combination of chewy squid and the flavorful, vibrant Gochujang dip!
