Quick Stir-Fried Dried Shredded Squid: Sumi’s Side Dish Recipe
Super Simple Dried Shredded Squid Side Dish Inspired by Sumi’s Side Dish!
Hello everyone! Today, I’m sharing a recipe for ‘Stir-Fried Dried Shredded Squid,’ a popular side dish featured on Sumi’s Side Dish show. I’ve been using this recipe since last year because it’s incredibly quick to make. It truly lives up to its name as a ‘super simple side dish,’ taking only about 10 minutes to prepare. The slightly sweet and savory flavor is so addictive, making it a perfect accompaniment to rice. Let’s get started on this delicious and easy-to-make banchan!
Ingredients- Dried Shredded Squid 200g
- Soy Sauce 2 Tbsp
- Honey 2 Tbsp
- Sesame Seeds 1 Tbsp
- Sesame Oil 1 tsp
- Cooking Oil 2 Tbsp
- Minced Garlic 1 Tbsp (Optional, for enhanced flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the dried shredded squid into bite-sized pieces. I used scissors to cut them in half, making them easier for children to eat. Prepping the squid like this will further shorten your cooking time.
Step 2
Dried shredded squid can burn very easily on the heat, so it’s important to prepare the sauce in advance. In a bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of honey to create a delicious sauce. You can also use corn syrup or rice syrup instead of honey.
Step 3
Now, heat a pan over medium-low heat and add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. While the original Sumi’s Side Dish recipe doesn’t include garlic, lightly sautéing garlic adds a much richer and deeper flavor, which is a tip I personally like to add. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 4
Once the garlic is fragrant, reduce the heat to low. Add the prepared dried shredded squid to the pan and stir-fry briefly, just enough to coat it with the oil. Be cautious not to overcook, as it can become tough. Then, pour in the prepared sauce and stir-fry quickly to ensure the sauce evenly coats the squid shreds.
Step 5
Finally, turn off the heat and add 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. Mix well to complete your delicious stir-fried dried shredded squid.
Step 6
This recipe uses honey instead of sugar, which prevents the squid from becoming hard, allowing you to enjoy it at its best texture. Honestly, it’s so delicious that even if you make a large batch, it will likely disappear in no time! You might not even get a chance to store it in the refrigerator. Haha.
Step 7
The irresistible ‘sweet and savory’ combination of this stir-fried dried shredded squid makes it an excellent side dish for rice, a snack for kids, or even a great accompaniment to beer. Once you taste it, you won’t be able to stop reaching for more.
Step 8
The most crucial tip is managing the heat. By stir-frying slowly over low heat, you can prevent the squid from burning or becoming tough, virtually eliminating the chance of failure. This is a dried shredded squid stir-fry that anyone can easily make, so give it a try!
