Quick & Easy French Toast: The Perfect Way to Use Up Stale Bread!
Golden and Sweet! Delicious French Toast (Egg Toast) Recipe
Have leftover bread slices at home that you don’t know what to do with? Worry no more! With just eggs, milk, and a touch of sugar, you can create a delightful French toast that’s perfect for breakfast or a snack. Let’s get started!
Main Ingredients- 3 slices of whole wheat bread
- 2 fresh eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (approx. 120ml)
Sweetening Agents- 4 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- A little cooking oil or butter (for greasing the pan)
- 4 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- A little cooking oil or butter (for greasing the pan)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the 3 slices of whole wheat bread by cutting them into bite-sized pieces. You can cut them in half or quarters, depending on your preference. Make sure they aren’t too thin, so they can soak up the egg mixture well.
Step 2
In a wide bowl, crack the 2 fresh eggs. Add 1/2 cup of milk and 4 tablespoons of sugar. Whisk everything together gently with a fork or whisk until the eggs are well beaten and the sugar has dissolved. No need to overmix!
Step 3
Now, carefully dip the cut bread slices into the egg and milk mixture. Let them soak for about 30 seconds to 1 minute per side, ensuring they absorb the liquid thoroughly. The goal is to have the bread moist inside without becoming too soggy.
Step 4
Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat and add a little cooking oil or butter to lightly coat the surface. Gently place the soaked bread slices onto the hot pan. Once you hear a gentle sizzle, reduce the heat slightly and cook slowly until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. This slow cooking ensures the inside is cooked through while the outside becomes perfectly crispy.
Step 5
Voilà! Your delicious French toast is ready! Doesn’t it look appetizing? Serve immediately on a plate. For an extra touch of sweetness and visual appeal, you can sprinkle powdered sugar on top or serve with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, jam, or fresh fruits. It’s a hit for kids’ breakfasts or special occasions!
