This dish combines the freshness of the sea with fluffy rice and crisp radish, all ready in just 10 minutes. It’s a wonderfully comforting and quick meal that will reignite your appetite.
Oyster Rice Ingredients- 1 bag fresh oysters (about 200g)
- 100g daikon radish (about 0.5cm thick)
- 2 bowls cooked rice (warm)
- 4-5 stalks scallions
- 120ml water
Flavorful Dipping Sauce Ingredients- 1 Tbsp minced scallions
- 1 Tbsp minced red and green chili peppers (for color and spice)
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (for mild sweetness)
- 2 Tbsp plum extract (for umami and depth)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (for nutty flavor)
- 1 Tbsp minced scallions
- 1 Tbsp minced red and green chili peppers (for color and spice)
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (for mild sweetness)
- 2 Tbsp plum extract (for umami and depth)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (for nutty flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the fresh oysters. Place the oysters in a colander and rinse them under cold running water, or gently swirl them in a bowl with 1 Tbsp of coarse salt. Rinse 3-4 times to remove any impurities and ensure plump oysters. Drain the oysters well.
Step 2
Peel the daikon radish and wash it thoroughly. Julienne the radish into thin strips, about 0.5cm thick. These thin strips will soften beautifully as they cook with the rice, infusing the dish with a subtle freshness.
Step 3
Now, let’s assemble the rice! In a pot or pan suitable for cooking rice, start by layering the julienned daikon radish. Evenly spread the 2 bowls of warm cooked rice over the radish. Finally, arrange the drained oysters on top of the rice. Avoid overcrowding the oysters; leave some space for them to cook nicely.
Step 4
Time to add some flavor! Drizzle 1 Tbsp of soy sauce evenly over the rice and oysters. Then, carefully pour 120ml of water around the edges of the pan. Pouring the water around the sides helps prevent the rice from sticking or burning and ensures it cooks evenly and stays moist.
Step 5
Cover the pot or pan with a lid and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes. In just 10 minutes, the rice will be perfectly al dente, and the oysters will be cooked just right, retaining their fresh taste. Keep an eye on the water level and adjust cooking time slightly if needed.
Step 6
While the oyster rice is cooking, let’s make the delicious dipping sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp of minced scallions and 1 Tbsp of minced red and green chili peppers. Add 3 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 Tbsp of corn syrup, 2 Tbsp of plum extract, 1 Tbsp of minced garlic, 1 Tbsp of sesame oil, and 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds. Mix everything together thoroughly until well combined. This sauce adds a wonderful depth of flavor to the oyster rice.
Step 7
After 10 minutes, your delicious oyster rice is ready! Remove the lid, garnish with chopped scallions, and serve with the prepared dipping sauce. For an extra touch of richness, drizzle an additional 1 Tbsp of sesame oil over the top before mixing. Enjoy the delightful combination of the ocean’s freshness, the chewy texture of the rice, and the crispness of the radish!
